On Nov. 20th and 21st, 2017, Prof. Ji-Hyun Lee and her doctoral candidate student Ikhwan Kim ran a lecture and workshop with a topic of ‘Shape Grammar: Analyzing Pattern Design through a Formal Approach.’ to high school students at Bosung Woman’s High School, Seoul. Shape Grammar is a design tool based on a mathematical approach opening up further possibilities and efficiencies to assist the designer’s creativity. Within the AI realm, Shape Grammar is further advancing.
On the 20th of November, Prof. Lee did a Shape Grammar lecture to let students understand beforehand. The next day, the 21st, we met the Goethe-Institut Korea (주한독일문화원) to do the Workshop.
During the workshop, students could design their own flower pattern by themselves with Shape Grammar program and could have them as laser carved coasters.
The workshop was full of joy and excitement that could be only delivered by young and ambitious students. Maybe in near future, we might be able to welcome those young students to our lab, we hope!
